Conservative MP Christopher Pincher has been suspended from the parliamentary celebration after an investigation was launched into alleged sexual misconduct.
The inquiry by parliament’s Impartial Complaints and Grievances Scheme (ICGS) was set in movement by a proper criticism referring to the previous minister’s behaviour at a personal members’ membership on Wednesday night.
It’s alleged that Mr Pincher groped two males whereas drunk on the unique Carlton Membership on London’s Piccadilly. In a letter to Boris Johnson providing his resignation as deputy chief whip, he admitted: “Final night time I drank far an excessive amount of. I’ve embarrassed myself and different individuals.”
The Tory whip was withdrawn after a day of strain on the prime minister, who initially tried to attract a line below the scandal after accepting Mr Pincher’s resignation.
A spokesperson for chief whip Chris Heaton-Harris mentioned: “Having heard {that a} formal criticism has been made to the ICGS, the prime minister has agreed with the chief whip that the whip needs to be suspended from Chris Pincher whereas investigation is ongoing.
“We is not going to prejudge that investigation. We urge colleagues and the media to respect that course of.”
Downing Avenue introduced that Rochester and Strood MP Kelly Tolhurst has been appointed to fill Mr Pincher’s former put up as deputy chief whip.
